Yan cümlecikte (adverbial clause of comparison) çekimi yapılabilen fiiler (finite verbs) genellikle bir kez daha tekrar edilmez. Bunların yerine bazen “do/does/did” kullanılır.

Yan cümlecikte kişi zamirleri (personal pronouns) bazen yalın halde (subjectıve case) bazen de nesne durumda (objectıve case) bulunabilir, fakat “objective case”den sonra hiçbir sözcük kullanılmaz.

Bazen yan cümlecikte (adverbial clause of proportion), bazen de her iki cümlecikte fiiller cümleden çıkartılabilir, fakat cümle yine de kolayca anlaşılabilir.
*The more frightening the film, the more I enjoy it.
Film ne kadar çok korkunç ise o kadar çok hoşuma gider.
*The sooner, the better.
Ne kadar yakın zamanda olursa o kadar iyi olur.
*The sooner he comes, hte better.
Ne kadar erken gelirse o kadar iyidir.
