STRUCTURE I (B) : SUBJECTIVE CASE
Bu tür bileşik cümlede (complex sentence) sıfat cümleciği (adjectival clause) ana cümleciğin (main clause) nesnesini (object) niteler. Sıfat cümleciğinin öznesi olarak aşağıdaki “relative pronoun”lar kullanılır ve bağlaç olarak kullanılan bu sözcükler hiçbir zaman cümleden çıkartılamazlar.
WHO/WHICH/THAT
I know the man who wrote this book.
Bu kitabı yazan adamı tanıyorum.
Yukarıdaki bu bileşik cümle (complex sentence) iki basit cümleden (simple sentece) oluşmuştur.
a.I know the man.
Adamı tanıyorum.
b.The man wrote this book.
Adam bu kitabı yazdı.

Yukarıdaki iki basit cümlenin ortak sözcüğü (common word) olan “the man” birinci “a” cümlesinde nesne (object) durumunda, ikinci “b” cümlesinde ise özne (subject) durumundadır.
a. I saw the lion.
b. The lion killed the hunter.
c. I saw the lion which (that) killed the hunter.
Avcıyı öldüren aslanı gördüm.
a.I threw a stone at the dog.
b. The dog was barking at the children.
c.I threw a stone at the dog which (that) was barking at the children.
Çocuklara havlayan köpeğe bir taş attım.
*I want to talk to the girl who is wearing the plaid dress.
Pileli elbiseyi giyen kızla konuşmak istiyorum.
* ”Jaws” Steven Spielberg’i ünlü yapan filmdir.
*My father looked at the house which (that) was for sale.
Babam satılık olan eve baktı.
* This is the car which (that) is very expensive.
Çok pahalı olan otomobil budur.
*Mary is the girl who married Peter’s brother.
Mary Peter’in erkek kardeşi ile evlenen kızdır.
*Who will be the first man that lives on the moon?
Ayın üzerinde yaşayacak ilk insan kim olacaktır?
*Your father is the best person that can advise you on this matter.

Aşağıdaki sözcükler tanımlandığında (nitelendiğinde),nitelenen sözcük insan olsa bile “relative pronoun” olarak genellikle “that” kullanılır.

Görmek istediğim birşey vardı.
*They do anything that is illegal.
Onlar yasal olmayan herşeyi yaparlar.
*Who that believes in God would do a thing like that?
Allah’a inanan kim böyle birşeyi yapabilirdi?
*It is the answer that will make you happy.
